The Funding Network is a way for grassroots non-profits and innovative social change programs to participate in live crowdfunding events that are often described as a friendly shark tank for social change. This is our third event with The Funding Network in Canberra, and combined we have raised $258,000 for ten local grassroots organisations including GG’s Flowers, Women’s Center for Health Matters and Mental Illness Education ACT.
This year, three women-led organisations participated and had just 6 minutes to pitch the crowd and take questions.
Bus Stop Films
Bus Stop Films offers people with disability the opportunity to learn about filmmaking through an accessible film studies program. Their goal is to bring their Accessible Films Studies Program to Canberra in 2020, and the funding they got was enough to fund Canberra-based students with disability to take filmmaking classes and create a short film using professional equipment and studios. They will also fund Indigenous filmmaking scholarships.
Stella Bella Little Stars Foundation
Stella Bella Little Stars Foundation aims to brighten the lives of children – and their families – who are living with serious and long-term illnesses in the ACT. Their pitching success will enable young children who are affected by serious illness to attend school with a specialised support worker by their side.
The Farm in Galong
The Farm in Galong is a post-rehab facility for women leaving drug and alcohol rehabilitation services. Their fundraising was enough to hire an on-site counsellor to assist and train residents to work towards their own recovery and ultimately reunite their family.
Since 2013, The Funding Network has united more than 10,000 people across Australia at 83 events and facilitated over $11 million for 280 grassroots organisations.
