Tender Funerals Canberra Opening August 2024

Tender Funerals Canberra is open!

This milestone comes after a collaborative journey with Tender and Capital Property Group to establish a unique and special facility, to address the needs of grieving Canberrans through a compassionate and inclusive approach. Tender Funerals Canberra values dignity, affordability, and meaningful choices for our community.

“We are thrilled to open our doors in Canberra and provide a space where families can feel welcome and supported when faced with death. Our services are designed to empower families to make informed choices, provide options for participation and foster a healthy grieving process. The Snow Foundation and Capital Property Group have played instrumental roles in bringing Tender Funerals to the region, and we’re so grateful for their comprehensive support” Catherine Prosser, General Manager of Tender Funerals Canberra Region said.

Tender Funerals is a not-for-profit organisation with the mission to ensure every Australian has access to meaningful and affordable funerals. The Canberra site has six family spaces and is surrounded by the gardens and nature of the Fairbairn precinct. The spaces include arrangement rooms to discuss funerals, gathering rooms for families to spend time with their person who has died and each other, and two wash and dress rooms for families to prepare their person for the funeral.

There is also a multi-purpose space which can be used for funerals, ceremonies and workshops. Tender Funerals supports any style of funeral for every part of the community. Their operational model includes a benevolent fund to ensure that families experiencing financial distress are also able to access meaningful funerals.

“Tender Funerals addresses the needs of grieving Canberrans with a compassionate and inclusive approach to dying. We are thrilled to support a service that offers dignity, affordability, and meaningful choices to our community during times of grief and distress,” The Snow Foundation CEO Georgina Byron AM said. “This new facility sets the standard for inclusive and personalised funeral services in the Canberra
region.”
The Snow Foundation provided initial seed funding and additional funding of $1m and together formed a significant partnership for the project with Capital Property Group who are providing pro bono resourcing.

“Our family has a long history of supporting the people of Canberra and the surrounding region, and we believe this new facility will add to that important legacy,” Stephen Byron, CEO of the Capital Property Group said.
“By supporting Tender Funerals, both The Snow Foundation and the Capital Property Group hope to provide a positive and innovative approach for grieving Canberrans. This partnership underscores our commitment to supporting community initiatives making meaningful impact.”
