Sydney Women’s Fund has launched the fourth ‘Portrait of Sydney Women 2021 Research’, which provides a valuable snapshot of Sydney women young and old and informs how Sydney can rethink city life post pandemic.
Sydney women have huge concern for their financial security, 61% are worried if they have enough income to live on, and 87% of women find it harder to live in Sydney than they did 10 years ago (up 5% from the baseline research in 2018). Those on low incomes and Mums with dependent children have been hit hard by the increased cost of living and housing stress. Over half of Mums with dependent children live in housing stress, and a high 48% of working women earn less than $34,000.
Life is tough yet the positive message from Sydney women is they love their corner of Sydney and want more work more so they can stay in Sydney and the majority feel optimistic about their future.
