We have been working closely with PCYC Canberra and Community Housing Canberra for a number of years to turn the derelict PCYC Turner site into housing for the community and are really excited that the ACT Government has come on board and sees this as a priority project. We look forward to future financial and planning approvals to make this project a reality.
We are very passionate about supporting this vital build that will provide more affordable rentals and supported housing for youth at risk.
It has been amazing to work closely with Cheryl from Canberra PCYC and see firsthand the difference they make to young people who have disengaged from the mainstream education system. From social enterprise cafes to gardening services, these initiatives equip young people with training, skills and confidence and pave the way for future employment opportunities. Yet, the waitlist for such programs far exceeds their current capacity.
The Snow Foundation has been an active participant in the Steering Committee for the Turner Project for the past two years. We’ve been continually impressed by the dedication and passion shown by Cheryl from PCYC, Andrew from CHC, and the invaluable pro bono support from local businesses.
We firmly believe in supporting community-led projects, recognising that large-scale projects like this require collaborative efforts from government, businesses, community, and philanthropy.
Together, we can transform this derelict site into homes for the community and provide a brighter future for our youth.
