Collaboration is a powerful tool for effecting change and it’s one of our guiding values. So, when the opportunity to join forces with Hands Across Canberra and the John James Foundation presented itself, there was no hesitation in moving forward.
The goal was for each organisation to pitch in for a $1 million pool of funds intended for the ACT Greater Region and when the applications opened, we were blown away by the response, receiving 171 applications requesting more than $5.45 million.
The volume and content of the applications helped us to understand Canberra’s needs on a more intricate level, adding to the findings from our vital signs report.
Through many roundtables and in consultation with respective Boards and some experts, the Foundations reviewed and recommended those in their respective focus areas.
The Snow Foundation has a particular focus on domestic and family violence and at-risk youth. We’ve all seen the data and reports that show the dramatic increase in both these areas during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was encouraging to see a number of projects through the Collaborative Grant Round that address these areas with an innovative approach.
The Directions’ Teen Clinic in Lanyon, a Youth Space in Belconnen Mall and The Complexity Centre are a few of the new initiatives we have funded that tackle these wicked problems.
We finalised the grant round with the collaboration funding of 71 projects with $1.5 million (see below), strengthening existing relationships and forging new ones.
Ultimately, the Canberra Foundations Collaborative Grant Round was a success and we’re looking forward to the next!
